who

Sir David Attenborough is an English broadcaster and natural historian. He is currently over 90 years old and has been active for several decades. Although he is most famous for his documentaries, which include 'Blue Planet' and 'Natural World', he is also famous for writing several books about nature. He was awarded several prizes over the years for his documentaries.

when

I first found out about him in my first year of school when the teacher showed us one of his documentaries. If I remember correctly, the teacher showed us one of his documentaries because it was relevant to the topic which we were studying at the time. I think we were studying about the environment at the time, although I can’t say for sure.

where

The teacher made the students arrange their seats in front of a large projector, which was at the front of the classroom. The room was dark as all the blinds were closed and the lights were turned off. We were all quiet as we watched the documentary and I remember being totally enraptured by what was being shown to me.

what

The documentary was called ‘Blue Planet’, which I mentioned earlier. It was about the ocean and the marine life which inhabited it. We didn’t finish the documentary as it was two hours long and each class period was only about 50 minutes. We ended up finishing it on another day.

why

I like Sir David Attenborough as his documentaries are very interesting and informative. I have watched several of his documentaries over the years and they taught me a lot about nature and the environment. Furthermore, I really respect him because he campaigns against environmental destruction and climate change. I think it’s important that we consider the impact we have on the environment before it’s too late.

how

Sir David Attenborough became famous through his career as a television producer for the BBC. His fame increased as his career continued due to his involvement in the production of several popular TV series including 'Zoo Quest'. He reached the height of his fame in the late 70s when his 'Life on Earth' documentary series was released.

Describe a law about the environment that you would like to see in your country.
・what the law would be about
    ・how the law would work
・what effects this law would have
explain why you think this law is needed.
Describe a successful small business that you know about.
    ・what business it is
    ・what this business does
・how you know about this business
explain why you think this company is successful.
Describe a period in history that you would like to know more about.
    ・what period it was
・how you heard about this period
・what you know about this period
explain why you would like to know more about this period.

  • Could you please rephrase the question?
  • Could you clarify what you mean by ...?
  • Sorry, could you explain what ... means?

I’m not really familiar with ..., but if I had to guess I would say that ...
To be honest, I’ve never thought that much about ... before, but I think that ...
  • ・... isn’t something I really think about because it isn’t an area I’m really interested in (or familiar with), but if I had to give my opinion I would say ...

I’ve not had an opportunity to visit a historical museum as there aren’t many in the area where I’m living. But when I visited Japan last year, I visited a very old shrine in Kyoto ...
I’m honestly not very interested in trying a water sport because I don’t particularly like getting wet. So instead, I’m going to talk about a person I know who goes surfing every weekend.

Anyway, ...
Anyhow, ...
Let’s get back on track.
Getting back to the main topic, ...

There are many small businesses in the area where I live, especially in the town centre. One such small business is a family run restaurant called "The Curry House". This restaurant specialises in Indian cuisine, although it also serves quite a few Chinese and fusion dishes as well. All the dishes I've eaten there were extremely delicious. It is extremely popular and on the weekends, it is packed to the point that it is almost impossible to find a seat. At the moment, the area where I live is currently under lockdown and restaurants are only open for takeaway. I order takeaway from there at least once every two weeks. I found out about this restaurant through one of my high school friends, who I am still in contact with to this day. After finishing a particularly difficult exam, she very kindly offered treat me to lunch at "The Curry House". If I remember correctly, I ordered butter chicken with rice. Butter chicken is a curry made from tomatoes, cashew nuts and butter. Although the curry tasted very good, I was given a very large portion and I really struggled to finish it. The reason why this restaurant is so successful is because the prices are reasonable and the dishes they serve are of a very high quality. I am constantly surprised by the fact that they serve such large portions for such a low price. The staff are also very friendly and easy to talk to and I always order dishes that they recommend. If you ever get the chance, I think that you should give this restaurant a shot. I really don't think that you will regret it.

I really enjoy learning about history. So there are several periods I would definitely like to know more about. One such period is World War One, which is a wartime era which spans from 1914 to 1918. World War One is also known as the Great War by some given that it is the first worldwide conflict of the modern era. I'm honestly not sure if World War One is an appropriate name given that the vast majority of combatants were European. I found out about this period of history through my father, who often told me stories about my great grandfather when I was child. My great grandfather was an Australian soldier who enlisted in the army to fight on behalf of the British Empire. He was involved in the disastrous Gallipoli Campaign, which was an unsuccessful attempt by France, the British Empire and Russia, to weaken the Ottoman Empire. My father often told me about how my great grandfather was the only survivor of his regiment. Although most of what I know about this era is related to the Gallipoli Campaign, I also have some knowledge about how this war broke out. If I remember correctly, a Serbian partisan shot and killed Archduke Ferdinand, who was the heir to the Austro-Hungarian Empire. This caused Austro-Hungary to invade Serbia and consequently, military alliances formed throughout Europe. I would like to know more about this period, not only because of my family history, but because I have very knowledge about the conflicts which occurred throughout this period. I would especially like to know more about the Battle of the Somme and the Battle of Verdun, which are both major conflicts of the war.
