Cambridge Dictionary では、動詞は to make the same journey regularly between work and home、名詞は a regular journey between work and home と説明されています。
I commute to work by train.
I commute from Brisbane to the Gold Coast.
学校へ通う人が I commute to university.
My commute takes 30 minutes.
I have a long commute.
「出勤途中に」なら、日常会話では on my way to work が特によく使われます。
I listen to podcasts during my commute.
I usually read the news during my commute to work.
on my way to work:仕事に向かう途中を指す
I study English on my way to work.
I stopped at a café on my way to work.
I often buy dinner on my way home from work.
on my way to work が指すのは行きだけで、帰りは on my way home from work と言います。
I listen to music while commuting.
While commuting, my phone was stolen. While I was commuting, someone stole my phone.
04during commute to the work が不自然な理由
✗
during commute to the workcommute に my がなく、work に the が付いている
✗
during I commute to workduring
○
during my commute to work出勤中に
work は、職場や仕事に行くという意味では go to work や at work のように the を付けません。一方で office には the や my のような語が必要で、during my commute to the office と言います。
主語と動詞を続けたいときは while に替えて、while I commute to work とします。
Mostly during my commute, actually. It takes about forty minutes to get to the office by train, so I put my earphones on as soon as I find a spot to stand. On my way home, I usually choose something calmer, which helps me unwind after work.
Q. How do people usually travel to work or school?
In big cities like Tokyo, most people commute by train because it's fast and reliable, although the carriages can get really packed in the morning. Outside the big cities, people tend to drive to work, since the trains don't run very often. Students usually walk or cycle to school if they live nearby.
Q. How does public transport affect people's quality of life?
I think it makes a huge difference, especially for people with long commutes. If the trains are reliable and not too crowded, commuting is much less stressful, and people can use that time to read or study. Mind you, when services are poor, many people have no choice but to drive, so they spend hours in traffic every week and arrive at work already tired. Good public transport also gives older people and those who can't drive more independence, because they can get to shops and hospitals on their own.
I go to work by train. や I take the train to work. I work from home, so I don't have to commute.
