IELTS Speaking Part 3は、試験官と社会的・抽象的なテーマについて話し合うセクションです。Part 2のスピーチと違い、質問は事前に見ることができません。「何を聞かれているかはわかるのに、どう答え始めればいいかわからない」と感じる方も多いでしょう。
しかし、Part 3の質問をよく見ると、いくつかのタイプに分類できます。タイプを見分けて、そのタイプに合ったパターンで答えることができれば、内容がまとまった答えを素早く組み立てやすくなります。この記事では、代表的な質問タイプ別に、それぞれの回答パターンを紹介します。
「〜の例を挙げてください」という質問です。知識や経験の幅を見せるチャンスです。例を2〜3個出し、最後に短いコメントを加えると締まった答えになります。
— Can you give me some examples of jobs that require good communication skills?

「〜の利点（欠点）は何ですか？」という質問です。恩恵や弊害を具体的に挙げることが求められます。どちらか一方を問われている場合でも、必要に応じてバランスを取ったコメントを加えると説得力が増します。

「なぜ〜だと思いますか？」という質問です。Part 3で最も頻繁に出るタイプのひとつです。

「〜は重要だと思いますか？」という質問です。重要性を述べるだけでなく、理由や具体例を加えることで答えの深みが増します。単純に "Yes, it's important" で終わらないようにしましょう。

「〜は簡単だと思いますか、難しいですか？」という質問です。難しさ（あるいは容易さ）の理由を挙げ、状況によって変わる可能性も示すと奥行きのある答えになります。

「〜は良い方法（アイデア）だと思いますか？」という質問です。特定のアプローチや取り組みの妥当性を評価することが求められます。賛否を明確にしつつ、条件や留意点も加えると答えに厚みが出ます。

2つのものや立場を比べる質問です。AとBをそれぞれ特徴づけた上で、自分の見解を添えると答えとして完成します。どちらか一方だけを取り上げず、両面を扱うことを意識しましょう。

「〜に賛成ですか、反対ですか？」「〜すべきだと思いますか？」という質問です。立場を明確にした上で、理由と補足を続けることが大切です。どちらの立場でも、反対側への一定の理解を示すと答えが一面的に見えるのを防げます。

「どうすれば〜できますか？」「〜するためには何をすべきですか？」という質問です。具体的な手段やステップを問われており、実践可能な内容を盛り込むと説得力が増します。

「もし〜だったら」という仮定の状況を想像して答える問題です。断定しにくい内容が多いので、I think / I believe / In my view などで意見であることを示しながら答えると自然になります。

Part 3の質問は一見バラバラに見えますが、以下のように整理できます。
質問の最初の数語でタイプを見抜くことができると回答に余裕が生まれます。タイプが決まれば、あとはそのパターンに沿って内容を埋めていくだけですね。これらのパターンを使い、過去問を使って練習してみましょう。
