Cambridge IELTS 21 Test 1
本文の at Troyes, in northern France が、設問では in France だけになっています。
1-2 prior to and following → before and after(Q19)
本文 Passage 2
... prior to and following a flotation session
... to complete before and after using a flotation tank
prior to は before、following は after の、書き言葉でよく使われる言い方です。
1-3 poor countries / came off worse → less wealthy nations / were penalised(Q36)
... it was inevitably the poor countries which came off worse.
設問文 Q36(語群から選ぶ要約問題)
As a result of this, ___ were penalised.
2-1 reveal their preference for → showed they liked(Q4)
... reveal their preference for Old Master paintings.
their ___ showed they liked Old Master paintings
reveal(明らかにする)が showed に、preference(好み)という名詞が liked という動詞に書き換えられています。
2-2 do not want → against their will(Q22)
本文 Passage 2
'When people do not want silence, it can be very distressing.'
設問文 Q22(人物と発言を結びつける問題)
It is unpleasant and upsetting for people to be placed in a silent environment against their will.
2-3 I expect we will see much more of this → is likely to increase(Q23)
本文 Passage 2
'I expect we will see much more of this in the future.'
設問文 Q23(人物と発言を結びつける問題)
The trend towards creating quieter urban locations is likely to increase in the coming years.
話し手の予測を表す I expect が is likely to に、much more が increase に、in the future が in the coming years に置き換えられています。
... far more than the recommended 40 decibels of noise at night
... at least 1 in 5 people consistently exposed to levels considered harmful to health
設問文 Q15(情報がどのセクションにあるかを答える問題)
data indicating the extent of the problem of excessive noise
the extent of the problem(問題の広がり)も、本文では an ongoing and widespread issue や、5人に1人という割合で表されています。
Their religious upbringing in rural Wales gave them ...
... they chose to use their inheritance for cultural and philanthropic purposes.
The Davies sisters' childhood influenced the way they decided to use their wealth.
inheritance(相続した財産)は、wealth(富)という範囲の広い語に置き換えられています。 本文には influenced にあたる動詞がなく、upbringing が gave them a deep sense of social responsibility という節と、they chose to use ...
3-3 trade barriers and subsidies → financial controls(Q35)
... their interests were consequently protected by trade barriers and subsidies.
設問文 Q35(語群から選ぶ要約問題)
To support the interests of sugar producers, ___ were established.
trade barriers(関税などの貿易の障壁)と subsidies(補助金)という2つの具体的な手段を、語群は financial controls(お金の面での規制や管理)という範囲の広い語句で受けています。
4-1 Contrary to popular belief → addressing a misconception(Q29)
Contrary to popular belief, cane sugar production was never just restricted to large, dedicated plantations ...
設問文 Q29(選択問題)
What is the reviewer doing in the third paragraph?
選択肢の1つ:addressing a misconception about the growing of sugar cane
Contrary to popular belief 本文の cane sugar production も、選択肢では the growing of sugar cane と名詞の組み立てが変わっています。
Contrary to popular belief
4-2 could always have done without → unnecessary(Q30)
He shows that we could always have done without sugar ...
設問文 Q30(選択問題)
In the final paragraph, what does the reviewer suggest is the overall message of Bosma's book?
Sugar is a harmful and unnecessary product.
could always have done without sugar
4-3 routinely ignored → very few people were doing so(Q13)
... at a time when such art was routinely ignored by individuals and institutions alike.
... during a period when very few people were doing so.
at a time when と during a period when は、どちらも「〜していた時期に」という同じ意味です。
ところが、本文で a luxury と結びついている動詞は regarded(見なされていた)で、promoted(売り込まれた)の中身は a valuable source of energy です。
5-2 had a hand in を「口をはさんだ」と読む(Q10)
... Hugh Blaker, as a champion of contemporary French art had a hand in the decision ...
Hugh Blaker opposed the Davies sisters' decision to buy art by French Impressionists.
✗
as a champion of contemporary French art
... the recent past has seen worrying new developments in mass sweetening.
High-fructose corn syrup ... invented in Japan in the 1960s ...
設問文 Q39(Yes・No・Not Given)
The invention of high-fructose corn syrup was a positive development.
✗
invention=invented in Japan in the 1960s、development は同じ語発明された年と場所の記述だけを読み、筆者の評価を探さない
Test 1 では、本文の troops が設問では soldiers、prior to and following が before and after になっていました。
Test 1 では、本文の poor countries が語群では less wealthy nations、trade barriers and subsidies が financial controls になっていました。
