In fact, the last time I went out for dinner with my colleagues, I skipped the main course and ordered two desserts instead.
Everyone laughed at me, but I don't regret it at all.
(I'd had a long week)も出てきます。
I used to ..., but now ...
Describe a place where you are able to relax.
You should say: where it is what it is like how often you go there and explain how you feel about this place.
△
It's a small café near my flat. It's quiet and there are a lot of books. I go there two or three times a month. I like it because it's relaxing.
I'd like to talk about a small café called Pages, which is tucked away on a quiet side street about five minutes from my flat. It's part bookshop, part café, so the walls are covered with second-hand books that you're allowed to read while you drink your coffee.
I probably go there two or three times a month, usually on a Saturday morning. Actually, the best way to describe it is to tell you about the last time I went, which was just last weekend. I'd had a really stressful week at work, so I took a novel off the shelf, ordered a hot chocolate and sat in my favourite seat by the window. It had started to rain, and I remember the owner putting on some quiet jazz and bringing me a small biscuit without my asking. I ended up staying for almost three hours, and I got through half the book.
What I love about the place is that nobody rushes you. In a lot of chain cafés, you feel you should leave as soon as your cup is empty, but there, the owner seems genuinely happy for people to stay. By the time I walked home that day, I'd completely forgotten about the problems at work. So for me, it isn't just a café. It's where I go when I need to switch off and feel like myself again.
Describe an outdoor activity you did recently. I usually go hiking at the weekend.
Q. Why do some people find it difficult to relax these days?
I think the main reason is that work follows people everywhere now. Because almost everyone has a smartphone, it's very easy to check emails late at night or even on holiday.
A friend of mine, for example, went on a trip to Spain last summer, and she told me she spent part of every evening replying to messages from her boss.
最後の So ...
Q. Do you think people will stop using cash in the future?
In many countries, I think cash will become much less common, but I doubt it'll disappear completely. Card and phone payments are so convenient that a lot of younger people hardly use coins at all.
That said, there are still situations where cash is the only option. When there was a big power cut in my area a couple of years ago, none of the card machines in the local shops worked, and the people who had some cash on them were the only ones who could buy anything.
No. The last time I was in a crowded place was at a fireworks festival last summer. I went with some friends from university, and before the fireworks we had dinner at a really nice Italian restaurant near the station.
○
No, not really. The last time I was in a crowded place was at a fireworks festival last summer, and it took us almost an hour just to get out of the station afterwards.
The last time I went to karaoke, I choose songs for everyone, and when they make me sing, I pick a very short song.1
○
The last time I went to karaoke, I chose songs for everyone, and when they made me sing, I picked a very short song.
Q. Why do some people find it difficult to relax these days?
✗
Well, a friend of mine went to Spain last summer, and she replied to messages from her boss every evening. She was really tired when she came back.
○
I think it's because work follows people everywhere now. A friend of mine, for example, went to Spain last summer and replied to messages from her boss every evening.
最初のうちは、The last time I ... 慣れてきたら、Actually, just last week ... や The first time I ...
